Forman, Joshua
Joshua Forman, founder of the city of Syracuse, was born at Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County, NY, September 6, 1777, son of Joseph and Hannah Forman. Young Joshua having displayed a strong tendency to study, received a good preliminary education, and in 1793, entered Union College, in Schenectady, where he was graduated with honor. On leaving college he began to study law in an office in Poughkeepsie for two years, when he established himself in the city of New York, and completed his law studies in the office of Samuel Miles Hopkins.

McLeod, Alex
Clergyman, born in the Island of Mull, Scotland, 12 June 1774; died in New York City, 17 February 1833. His father, Rev. Niel McLeod, was the entertainer of Dr. Samuel Johnson on the latter's visit to Mull. The son came to this country while yet young, was graduated at Union College in 1798, licensed to preach in the following year, and ordained over two churches - one in New York and one in Wallkill, NY.

Miller, Morris Smith
Son of Dr. Matthias Burnet and Phebe (Smith) Miller, was born at No. 156 Queen St., New York City, July 31, 1779, and died at his home in Utica, NY, November 16, 1824. He was sent up the river to enter Union College, where he was graduated with valedictorian honors in 1798.

Non-graduate of the class of 1798, resident of Herkimer, was a member of the Philomathean Society.

Oothout, Henry A.
Son of Abraham and Margaret (Lansing) Oothout. Born June 30, 1780. Married Eliza Ann Nicoll, a lineal descendant of Colonel Nicoll, the first English Governor of the Province of New York. Mr. Oothout was an attorney-at-law, for many years residing and practicing his profession at Albany. During the latter years of his life, returning to Schenectady, he retired from professional practice, and died at his homestead June 27, 1846.

Sears, Reuben
Reuben Sears graduated from Union College and was settled over a church in Hudson for several years, but his health failing, he removed to Ballston Spa, where he wrote a poem extolling the virtues of the mineral waters, which was published in pamphlet form in 1819.
