Biographical Information

A representative from New York; born in Schenectady, NY; born February 1, 1784; completed preparatory studies and graduated from Union College in 1802; studied law; served in War of 1812 under General Wade Hampton on the northern frontier, and was later aide-de-camp to Governor Tompkins, elected as a Democrat to the Fourteenth Congress; aided materially in the construction of the Welland Canal; judge of Madison County for many years; member of the state assembly in 1836; died in Chittenango, NY, July 11, 1836.
