The object of this work was to prepare some tryptamine derivatives in the hopes of enhancing some moderate central nervous system activity previously found in this laboratory in a related compound. In particular to prepare derivatives substituted in the 2 position by H or alkyl, in the 5 position by an H, alkyl or aralkyl oxygen function, and on the amine by a reduced amino acid residue
