Abstract
This thesis was written to describe the important and continuous influence of German Expressionism, especially in the review of critically acclaimed films. Comparing the stylization and ideals of the time with later cinematic works of the 1920’s to today, Expressionist imagery is prevalent in world renown film, Metropolis, as well as creative genius Tim Burton. The thesis is directed to emphasize the German Expressionist substantial impact behind a lot of cinematic representations of today’s motion pictures, as well as present new capabilities of the style with the incorporation of new technologies into these techniques.
