Abstract
This research was carried out in order to determine the effects of both the etherate and anhydrous forms of RF3 catalyst upon l-diazo-4-methyl-4-penten-2-one (I). It was hoped that cyclization could be induced to occur due to the presence of the neighboring olefinic bond. 3-Methyl-2-cyclopentenone, itself had been synthesized by a much more direct method than proposed here.
