Description
After public concerns mounted regarding the Adirondack Park agency procedure used in developing Unit Management Plans for the Adirondacks, the Adirondack Mountain Club created a subcommittee to investigate the processes and make recommendations to the Department of Environmental Conservation. An ADK commission study conducted between 1977 and 1988 found that the APA was making good progress but recognized room for improvement.
These papers include published materials, meeting agendas and minutes and correspondence from the ADK Conservation Committee on the Adirondack Park Agency. The contents reveal the Committee’s general issues with the APA and areas of conflict in regard to specific Unit Management Plans and localities. There is also, in these papers, an indication of the contentious relationship between the Local Government Review Board and the APA.
