The Garnet is the yearbook of Union College. It has been published annually from 1877-present, with few exceptions (notably 1892 and 1946). Materials include essays from editors, messages from graduating seniors, sketches, and illustrations. The years 1969-1979 are particularly notable for their designed by art history professor Arthur Bittelman, who changed the name, format, narrative form, and overall style of the annual publication during this time.
The materials remain part of the historic record in physical form, available through the Special Collections & Archives Division of Schaffer Library. Additional yearbooks will be made available as the digitized files are prepared. We recognize that this historic material may have content that is hurtful and offensive, but we desire to be inclusive and transparent in our release of materials for historical inquiry and examination.
