Description
In her 1988 exhibition catalogue, Anne Ehrenkrantz observed the numbers "1864" written on a wall at the deep right middleground of this photograph, and she proposed a date based on that. The proximity of this photograph to others Stillman took in Rome in this period corroborates her proposal.
