Abstract

The conception of love is an issue of intense discussion in Western culture. This was as true in the ancient world as in the modern. Perhaps the most influential and most misunderstood contributor to this debate was Plato. Platonic Eros was the expression in the philosophical context of the wider Greek idea of love.
